Many folks have asked for some information regarding the Florida update.
Do not despair of these recent drastic changes to Google. Read the following to gain a better understanding of the pro's and con's of these upheavals and simply continue to build a quality web presence with solid content with these thoughts in mind.
The changes to the algo are complicated and I've spent numerous hours the last two weeks studying thousands of threads. If you are truly interested in understanding then I would start by reading articles at sites like webpronews.com, etc.
As for changes to your site...
I suggest folks tone down the optimization for those specific keywords/phrases that are assessed a "commercial penalty" or are considered "overly-optimized". Part of this algo change targets those types of spammers that are the bane of everyones existence. Google did parse
out ALOT of crap and spam sites with this move. It's true that in the process some
innocents will get hurt. But, this algo change is GOOD for alot of reasons.
Google will continue to like those sites that are solidly done and have quality content that changes and grows. Having good link partners remains an important part of their assessment of your site and you should always look for those opportunities although pagerank has been devalued with the current changes.
Personally I've noticed that traffic to some sites based on hits, individual sessions and bandwidth has reached all time highs this past week although the sites in question can't be found on Google for some primary (now commercially penalized or seo penalized ) terms. I'm seeing many more single hits from obscure search queries related to the content of the site that has actually resulted in an increase of traffic from Google users.
You should also read these two articles.

And here's what Google says about some of the seo tactics...

And remember this... Google dances all the time and will continue to shift and rumble
to combat anyone manipulating the serps (search engine results pages) AS THEY SHOULD.
The first article mentioned is the best overall and general breakdown of what is being called the "Florida Update" by all the supposed seo guru's who can be heard ranting and raving on the boards. I would NOT recommend you treat anything here as gospel but you'll hear lot's of interesting theories nonetheless at the links below. Indeed, I KNOW that some of the rumors and speculation regarding inbound anchor text in links is dead wrong. You'll need to look for the specific Google forums.
