Clients Beware - Credit Card Fraud Companies that hide their identity or do not clearly state who is responsible for billing a call for a service are often involved in factoring - which is illegal and forbidden by a merchants service agreement. These companies presenting your credit card info for processing are willing to engage in an illegal activity that would cost them their merchant account if discovered. A client should be aware that any site willing to flaunt the law and the terms of their own merchant agreement in this manner would have to be considered high risk for other unethical and illegal activities including identity theft and illegal charges billed to your account. It was recently brought to our attention that many sites that mask the actual billing entity are doing this precisely because they are simply not supposed to be billing for that company. For example, one company is doing billing for another company whose web site is simply a front to lure in callers. The billing company does not own the site and only acts as an illegal backdoor broker for these crooks to process charges against your card. THIS IS WHY WE SEE "BILLED DISCREETLY" ON MANY SITES WITHOUT THE THE ACTUAL BILLING ENTITY CLEARLY IDENTIFIED. This factoring by those who participate in it is an illegal and unfair business practice. My merchant account tells me that I cannot do it because it is against their policies. It allows people who cannot obtain their own legitimate merchant account the means to continue to do business illegally when they have been denied or cancelled for reasons including fraud, a bad credit history or a criminal record. This practice is a huge disservice to a client seeking an honest service and puts the general public at risk for credit card abuse and fraud. Don't trust your card information to any site that might be involved in this type of a scam. Look for clearly listed billing and contact info or let the buyer beware! Planet refuses to list any sites that are engaged in this type of illegal and unethical behavior.
